Your yearly insurance check-up in Spain (15-minute checklist)
Once a year, review your insurance: amounts, cover, beneficiaries and prices. This checklist helps you do it in 15 minutes and spot where you’re overpaying.
Short answer: once a year, spend 15 minutes going through your insurance with this list. It’s the easiest way to spot duplicate cover, outdated amounts and premiums that have crept up without you noticing.
Before you start
Put your policies and the latest receipt for each in one folder (paper or on your phone): home, health, life, car, funeral, pets and, if you’re self-employed, your business cover.
Home
- Is the building and contents value still realistic? Bought new furniture or tech?
- Do you have enough liability cover?
- Have you moved or changed anything (renovations, alarm)?
Health
- Has the premium jumped? Compare other insurers.
- Does the plan type (co-payment or not) still match how you use healthcare?
- Has the family changed (new baby, children leaving home)?
Life
- Does the sum insured cover your debts and your family’s needs today?
- Are the beneficiaries right?
- If it’s your mortgage policy, have you compared outside the bank?
Car
- Is comprehensive cover still worth it for your car’s age?
- Are all drivers declared?
- Has the premium risen with no claims? Ask for alternatives.
Funeral (decesos)
- Is the sum insured up to date?
- Does it include repatriation if your family lives abroad?
- How is the premium changing with age?
Pets and self-employed
- Does your dog have the liability cover the rules require?
- Has your professional activity or project size changed?
Look for duplicates
Paying twice for the same thing is very common: liability on your home policy and another policy, travel assistance on both your car insurance and your bank card, pets covered by home insurance and a separate policy. Spotting this is instant savings.
In short
Fifteen minutes a year keeps your insurance up to date and stops you overpaying. If you’d rather not do it alone, send me your policies and I’ll do a full review in English, with no obligation.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I review my insurance?
At least once a year, and whenever something important changes: moving home, a mortgage, children, a new job or buying a car.
Can I switch insurer at any time?
Switching usually happens at renewal, notifying non-renewal with the notice your contract requires. Planning it avoids gaps in cover.
Does a review cost anything?
Not with me. I’ll review your current policies and point out duplicates, gaps or savings, with no obligation.
Want me to look at your case?
Send me your details and I’ll prepare a no-obligation comparison.
