Water damage
Leaks, burst pipes and seepage, including finding and fixing the fault.
A water leak, a short circuit or a burglary can turn your week upside down. Good home insurance sorts it out quickly and covers you if you damage someone else’s property. Whether you own or rent.
Home insurance
Home insurance in Spain protects two different things: the building (continente), meaning the property itself (walls, floors, fixed installations), and the contents (contenido), meaning your furniture, appliances, clothes and belongings.
It also includes personal liability, one of the most important and least known covers: if a leak in your flat damages your downstairs neighbour’s, the insurance pays.
If you have a mortgage, the bank will ask for at least buildings insurance. As with life insurance, you can take it with the insurer of your choice.
Leaks, burst pipes and seepage, including finding and fixing the fault.
Fire, explosion, lightning, wind or heavy rain, within the policy limits.
Burglary at home, damage from attempted break-ins and, on some policies, theft away from home.
Damage to wiring and appliances from power surges or short circuits.
Windows, mirrors, shower screens and, on some policies, ceramic hobs and worktops.
Damage that you, your family, your home or your pets cause to others.
Plumbers, locksmiths, electricians and other professionals when there’s an emergency.
Exact cover, limits and conditions depend on each insurer and policy. I’ll explain them before you sign.
You insure both the building and the contents. The complete option for your main home.
You insure your contents and your liability. The building is usually insured by the landlord.
Policies for rented properties, with cover such as unpaid rent or damage caused by tenants.
For homes that aren’t lived in all year, with conditions adapted to empty periods.
Illustrative examples of how this insurance works day to day.

If you declare less than the real value, after a claim the insurer may only pay a proportional part. We calculate it properly from the start.

Jewellery, art or expensive equipment usually have limits and may need to be declared separately.
